Abrasion Resistant Ceramic Coating

An important property for any protective coating is its abrasion resistance. Surfaces exposed and used in real world environments are subjected to multiple sources of abrasion, wet and dry. Many hydrophobic/oleophobic coating technologies are available but offer little in the way of abrasion resistance. This means that they will quickly lose their functional properties. The ASTM D2486 wet and dry scrub test is an industry accepted measure for abrasion resistance. NanoSlic NS 100, applied at 4 microns, was tested against 2 leading hydrophobic/oleophobic treatments. The results are summarized below.

Dry and Wet Scrub Abrasion Test Data

Tested according to ASTM method D2486. Contact angle (against water) measured at start and then after each 500 strokes.
